Hayne, Robert Young
(10 nov. 1791, Distrito de Colleton, S.C., EE.UU.–24 sep. 1839, Asheville, N.C.).

Político estadounidense. En 1823 ingresó al Senado, donde se convirtió en portavoz del Sur y de la doctrina de los derechos de los estados. En el célebre debate sobre la constitución que sostuvo en 1830 con Daniel Webster, argumentó que la constitución federal era un pacto entre los estados y que cualquiera de los estados podría anular toda ley federal que se estimase que violaba el pacto constitucional (ver anulación). En 1832, en la convención de nulidad de Carolina del Sur, en 1832, redactó una ordenanza que invalidaba en dicho estado las leyes arancelarias federales. Renunció al Senado en 1832 y luego fue gobernador de Carolina del Sur (1832–34) y alcalde de Charleston (1834–37).
